Tips to refresh your space this Spring.
It’s official, Spring is here in all its glory. Rain, sunshine and blossoms, the perfect time to celebrate those longer, lighter days leading up to summer and the promise of warmth that we so crave. We are now officially in a new season, so now is the time to refresh our spaces and the way we live in our homes so that we can connect to the outdoors once again and align our interiors to the natural world that we are so much a part of.
Add a Spring to your bedroom with a soft pink throw and fresh spring blossoms.
There are a few ways to easily refresh our homes and to infuse new energy into our spaces. Perhaps it’s a deep clean or organisation that is required; perhaps it’s changing up the artwork or furniture placement or even just adding fresh flowers or potted plants. Our spaces can become uninspiring if we don’t regularly update them. So, if you’d like to refresh, update, and simplify your space, then read on and choose which tips you’d like to implement.
1. Tackle that clutter
Decluttering is a therapeutical but often challenging task. My suggestion is to just bite the bullet and do it, a little at a time if that’s what you can manage as spring cleaning and refreshing your space is so much easier when extra stuff is out the way. This could also take the form of finding storage solutions for the items you do wish to keep.
Pack away, donate extra throws or find a lovely box to store items that you’re keeping.
Remove anything that you no longer like, this could even be artwork, photos, gifts, accessories or even a piece of furniture. Anything that reminds you of less happy times, or that triggers a response which could be – irritation, stress, unhappy memories. These all play on our minds and subconsciously affect us. It’s so much easier to donate, sell or give something away when it evokes a ‘negative’ emotion.
Now that the decluttering has been completed, it’s time to move on to a deep spring clean, definitely something we seem to have the urge to do as the seasons change.
2. A deep spring clean
A deep clean creates a good foundation for refreshing your space. If a deep clean of everything all at once over a weekend feels daunting, focus on shorter cleaning tasks over a period of 2 weeks which is much more manageable. Hiring a professional to help you may be something to consider too. A spring cleaning checklist could also be handy to keep you focused.
Spring is the perfect time to give rugs, mattresses, duvets, pillows and blankets a good clean, either wash them in your washing machine or have them professionally laundered or dry cleaned.
Give those rugs some TLC.
Now that the decluttering and deep cleaning has been completed. Let’s look at what else can be done to refresh your space. Fancy a move around?
3. Rearrange the furniture
Have a look at each room, is there anything that can be moved to another place in that room? Or can it be moved to another room? Moving items really does change how a room looks and feels. Can you move mirrors, chairs houseplants, artwork, accessories or console tables? We start to look at things differently when we move items around. These few switches will re-energise your space.
Notice how the look of this space changes with the introduction of different items.
Remember too to open the windows and doors and let in that lovely fresh air.
Now it's time to add some items to your space. Consider adding in some colour and greenery.
4. Accent colour
Traditionally spring colours would be pale uplifting pastel yellows, blue and pinks but ultimately the choice is yours. If soft blossom pink is a colour you love, have a look at the Dulux colour of the year 2024. - Sweet embrace. If those colours aren’t your thing have a look at the Graham & Brown colour of the Year 2024 – Viridis – a soft welcoming green.
Whatever your colour choices, make sure you love them and that they create the feel you are looking for in your home. Adding splashes of accent colour isn’t about following the latest trends, it's about adding colour to your existing scheme (unless of course, that is what you are changing). Accent colours do freshen up a space and can impact a room positively. Little colourful touches can add a sense of joy and make you smile too.

So, what could you add? Colourful vases, cushions, a feature wall, or new artwork. One of my favourite things to do is look for something a little quirky and unusual to add to my space.
5. Soft furnishings update
Spring means it’s getting warmer, so a lighter duvet is required. Perhaps this year is the time to update your bedding too? Choose tones that lift your spirits and that make you feel happy. This is also the time to change up the throws and cushions in your living room. Choose lighter colourful throws that work well with your colour scheme.
We can still keep that cosy feeling in our homes during spring.

Your colour scheme may be lighter or darker but that doesn’t have to stop you from opting for soft and cosy soft furnishings like wool throws, linen curtains, and cotton blankets.
We know we will still need those extra layers in the evening during spring and in the coming months (even during summer)
Top tip: Choose versatile throws that can be used outside too on those cooler summer evenings.
6. Wall art
In addition to being on trend this year, wall hangings and canvases are a great way to bring in texture, patterns and brightness to a space. It is so easy to transform a plain wall like this. If you like macrame, then a macrame wall hanging might be something to add to your space. Using fabrics softens a space, adding warmth, this way of layering textures adds depth to a room too.
7. Refresh your houseplants
Houseplants are a fabulous way to bring in texture and a happy feeling into any space. I just love bringing the outdoors indoors. Houseplants are the best way to do just this. Remember to get rid of any plants that are no longer healthy looking and replace them with healthy plants. This applies to dried flowers too! Many houseplants purify the air, consider choosing plants from this list.
Refresh your space with greenery
Now you’ve sorted out your plants, do you need to change up the plant pots? Choose ones that fit in with your colour scheme. Plants can be layered on shelving at different heights. Combining different plants of different sizes and heights creates a little indoor oasis of green which makes a home feel more home. Let’s add some more colour!
8. Colourful blooms
I just love flowers and they are the perfect companion to any interior – flowers and plants bring the outdoors inside to create a sense of well-being and joy. Biophilic design is so close to my heart as I know how much of a difference it can make in our lives and homes. A gorgeous bouquet is a really simple way to fill your home with Spring. Just arrange colourful spring flowers into your favourite vase and let the fragrances and vibrant colours of spring permeate throughout your space. Spring flowers are for me joy in a vase! Tulips, hyacinths, freesias and lilacs are also synonymous with spring and come in a bright, colourful palette.
Vibrant spring tulips
Another way to use flowers in the home is a spring wreath. Door wreaths are an excellent way to celebrate Spring and new beginnings. There are so many different beautiful spring flowers, like tulips, anemones or ranunculi available which can be added to a wreath. Top tip: to help your wreath last longer: spray your wreath with water- this will keep it fresh, and if cold weather is forecast, pop it in a garage or shed for a few days.
Let’s now add in some fresh spring fragrances.
9. Scents to refresh your space
Add scents to your space; fresh floral fragrances like eucalyptus, philadelphus, or bergamot. Just a quick spray in a room can make the room smell welcoming. There are so many different room sprays, candles and diffusers available so choose fragrances that are light and floral; fragrances that are synonymous with spring, like jasmine and geranium.
I do hope these ideas have inspired you to refresh your space this Spring.
Happy Refreshing your space.
